Notes from the MetSoc Chair
Hi all, this is a quick note to introduce you to our second edition of the AusIMM Metallurgical Society (MetSoc) newsletter for 2017, and to give a brief update of some of the things we’ve been up to. You’ll see the update from Bianca Newcombe on the 2017 MetFest events in Kalgoorlie and Parkes, as well as the status update on the 2017 Delprat Distinguished Lecture Series. Planning for these events is progressing well and we are very pleased to have Rob Dunne as our 2017 Delprat lecturer Read More
MetFests and Delprat Lectures – save the date(s)
Following the success of last year's Central West MetFest, the event will be run again this year in Parkes, NSW to coincide with the Delprat Distinguished Lecture. We have had a strong response from the operations in our region and are presenting on a number of interesting and challenging topics that should be of interest to all operations metallurgists. We would like to encourage attendance from far and wide and extend an invitation to all plant metallurgists to not only attend the Read More
DeGrussa Processing Plant overview
The DeGrussa Copper Mine (DCM) is 100 per cent owned by Sandfire Resources NL and located 150 km north of Meekatharra in the Doolgunna region. The greenfield deposit was discovered in 2009 with the first direct shipping ore (DSO) mined February 2012, with prompt development to an operating sulphide concentrator in September 2012. Figure 1 shows an aerial view of the current concentrator layout. [caption id="attachment_10676" align="alignnone" width="800"] Figure 1. DCM Read More
Pulp, paste and putty: thickeners and flocculants for high density underflows – part two
Part one of this article is available here.  Thickener sizing Comprehensive laboratory or continuous pilot testing will provide confidence in the selection of key parameters if slurry samples are representative. Some designers suggest that pilot testing is not required for thickener sizing if representative samples are adequately investigated in continuous laboratory tests, and/or other thickeners have previously operated under the same ore type, settling duty and flocculant choice. Ballarat Gold Symposium recap – May 30-June 1, 2017
Curtin University’s Gold Technology Group, part of the WA School of Mines, recently delivered a two-day gold symposium in Ballarat from 30-31 May, followed by mine site visits to Castlemaine Goldfields’ Ballarat Operation and Kirkland Lake Gold’s Fosterville Gold Mine. The symposium was an opportunity for gold producers, engineers, technologists and researchers to come together to discuss established and emerging technologies that will influence current and future ore processing.
