This year’s New Leaders conference, titled ‘Building our Future on the Foundations of History’, was held in Melbourne on 7-8 August.
In the days leading up to the Australian National Mining Games, AusIMM held the annual New Leaders’ Conference in Melbourne, Australia. The event was attended by a variety of current students and recent graduates from across Australia. In addition, many industry professionals were in attendance to share professional insights, upcoming industry trends, and to provide networking opportunities for new professionals.
The first day commenced with the official conference opening, followed by panel sessions focused on innovation and leadership. Day two focused on professionalism, personal insights, the business of mining, and sustainability.
As a representative from the AusIMM Community & Environment Society, I was given the opportunity to share my personal and professional insights relating to sustainability and mining. The presentation emphasised that as mining professionals, each of us are responsible for the sustainability of our industry and the communities in which we operate.
A big thanks to the organising committee, the attendees, and the experienced professionals who gave up their time to share insights with our industry’s newest leaders.
