President’s editorial: Reflecting on the past two years as AusIMM President

  • By Colin Moorhead FAusIMM(CP), President, AusIMM

It has been an honour to lead AusIMM for the past two years, and particularly in our 125th anniversary in 2018. I have been fortunate enough to visit many AusIMM Branches and communities throughout my time and thank everyone for the wonderful hospitality extended to my family and me.

I am particularly proud of our Future Directions strategy, and the progress we have made to reposition AusIMM to survive and thrive as a relevant, inclusive and contemporary organisation for the 21st century resources sector. The imperative for change was first initiated by Immediate Past President Rex Berthelsen, whom I especially acknowledge and thank as his AusIMM board term comes to an end.

As I sign off and hand over to our incoming President Janine Herzig, I know the Institute is in good shape and safe hands. I want to extend my sincere thanks to my fellow AusIMM board members for their dedication, wise leadership and support during this time of transformation. Particular thanks to Directors Alex Atkins and Dale Sims, whose terms also come to a close in 2018 – it has been a pleasure working with both of you. Sincere thanks also to the hard-working and committed AusIMM Management Team led by Stephen Durkin and Miriam Way.

And finally, thank you to our members, our industry’s most loyal, passionate people. Your support of the AusIMM has been instrumental in us reaching our 125-year anniversary and letting us look to the future with renewed optimism.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season, and all the best for a successful 2019.
