AusIMM’s role as the peak body for all resources professionals is to uphold the highest standards and to support our members in building their careers, wherever in the world they are working.
The importance of maintaining the highest standards in our industry cannot be overstated. Water and waste management is one of the most pressing issues facing the minerals sector and our members have the capacity to overcome these challenges and work towards regaining trust within our communities. We fully recognise the need for global collaboration to make substantive change and AusIMM is committed to taking on a leadership position.
To that end, in March the Global Mineral Professionals Alliance (GMPA) – of which AusIMM is a founding partner – announced a ‘Global Action on Tailings’ initiative, which will draw on the technical and professional expertise of its member bodies to lead the critical conversation on waste and tailings. Collectively, the GMPA has thousands of experts in all aspects of mining, milling, tailings generation, reprocessing and management, making us well-poised to address this complex topic from a scientific and fact-based perspective.
Because of the complex work we are responsible for, world-class resources professionals need a world-class professional association. This is why AusIMM is investing in key initiatives and consolidating on our strengths, positioning ourselves to be more effective in our role of upholding standards and promoting leadership, competency and currency in a global industry.
