On 23 March the AusIMM Southern Queensland Branch hosted a technical talk on underground coal mine ventilation.
This session featured Bruce Robertson (pictured) as the speaker, reporting of the findings of ACARP Project C25001: Ventilation and Gas Management. This project was commissioned by the ACARP Underground Technical Committee in 2015 and Bruce Robertson and Andrew Self published a report of their findings in August 2016. The purpose of the project is to evaluate the effectiveness of ventilation and gas management practices in industry, identify system gaps for current and future needs and to create a roadmap to meet future challenges.
The lecture attracted a diverse cross section of attendees from industry, academia, government and consulting. There were 14 recommendations made in the report which lead to a variety of questions and discussions among the speaker and participants. An extension project is currently underway to target the priority actions identified.
