On 24 November the AusIMM NPN proudly hosted their Technology and Innovation Flagship Networking Event that was kindly supported by BHP and Dassault Systemes.
The event was sold out and well attended by over eighty people of diverse backgrounds and career stages from more than thirty different organisations. The event was held on the top floor of the iconic BHP building in Perth and the views and atmosphere did not disappoint with a fantastic skyline and sunset providing the backdrop for the evening.
Alex Atkins spoke about the future of our industry, covering a range of ideas and topics that got the audience thinking outside the box and spurred on discussions throughout the evening.
Kevin Karlovsky of BHP delivered a talk on career agility and strategies to keep up with industry disruption that hit home with everyone from the seasoned veterans of the industry to the students in attendance.
Finally, we heard from Michael O’Connor from Dassault Systemes who spoke about how Dassault see the industry shifting towards a state of greater collaboration and digital transformation and shared his personal insights on adapting to similar changes throughout his career.
There was an energy at the event that felt encouraging and reinforced the idea that technology and disruption may at times be difficult to grasp, but there is a significant upside for professionals who are on the front foot and who take the opportunities to leverage their skill sets and the opportunities this shift presents.
