Technology, innovation and sustainability in the mining sector

  • By Craig Bradley, Senior Manager Mining, Business Transformation, Dassault Systèmes

Today, companies are on a journey towards sustainability. A sustainable world calls for more imagination and innovation in science, uses and economic models.

Dassault Systèmes has been fostering sustainable innovation since its founding. Our purpose is to provide business and people with virtual universes to imagine sustainable innovations capable of harmonising product, nature and life. We offer a new approach as industries use the virtual world to reinvent their business and foster a sustainable planet.

In the virtual world we can develop, simulate and test everything to the limit – exploring the real-world behaviour of products and nature itself. Here we can afford to make mistakes before they become a reality. This saves time, money and materials – helping to create economically sustainable companies with less wasteful, more environmentally sustainable, processes.

Dassault Systèmes works with companies of all sizes across 11 industries to help them meet new challenges in today’s Industry Renaissance. This means that we can leverage and apply the knowledge and know-how we acquired from across industries to the mining sector.

We are currently using our virtual-world technology to build a fully interactive model of the human heart, enabling surgeons to plan and rehearse complicated surgeries in the virtual world. Such technology can be used to create an integrated 3D model of real world mining operations, connecting and aggregating data from disparate sources of terrain, fixed plant, mobile equipment and existing mining systems in a unified way. These models can be used to design predictive what-if scenarios, enabling optimal use of resources.

Dassault Systèmes is proud to partner with the AusIMM, the trusted voice for the industry, to bring cutting-edge innovation and share knowledge and know-how, with those working in the mining industry through the Thought Leadership Online Series.

AusIMM’s Thought Leadership Series is a free virtual keynote speaker event series that will feature leading global voices as we explore the new frontiers for the resources industry.

Michelle Ash, GEOVIA CEO at Dassault Systemes, will be exploring sustainable technology and changing social perceptions of mining. Find out more and register for free at
