AusIMM is proud to partner with like-minded organisations sharing our commitment to support women in their careers. As part of our International Women’s Day Event Series, we’re showcasing inspiring stories from our sector, and initiatives that are making careers in mining a reality for women around the world.
Mining is in Aimee Roger’s blood. Growing up in Cornwall in the United Kingdom, Aimee was inspired by her dad, who was an airleg miner in the local tin mines. As a child, Aimee was always looking for rocks to collect and was fascinated by rock faces. When she finished school, pursuing geology at Cardiff University and the Camborne School of Mines was a natural progression.
Two years into her career, Aimee’s path crossed with Darren Cooke, who is now Principal – Business Development at Northern Star. Darren offered her a role in Kalgoorlie, and Aimee knew straight away that the Western Australian town was the place to be. She took the plunge and now proudly calls Kalgoorlie home.
Thanks to her dedication, experience and knowledge, Aimee progressed quickly through the ranks and holds the position of Geology Manager at Northern Star. Aimee’s time at Northern Star has represented everything she loves about mining, especially in her most recent role where she is focusing on developing and mentoring her team.
‘Thanks to her dedication, experience and knowledge, Aimee progressed quickly through the ranks and holds the position of Geology Manager at Northern Star.’
As Aimee’s star continues to rise, she hopes she can continue her professional development, and one day take on the role of General Manager. Aimee’s advice to others is to seize every opportunity, and that hard work and a good attitude will open doors for you.
During her downtime, Aimee loves getting out into the bush and escaping to the coastal town of Esperance. She is also passionate about immersing herself in the local Kalgoorlie community.
